Each implant will have a Unique Device Identification (UDI), this number can be entered or scanned into the system if you use bar-code scanning. Once added the information displayed in the Implantable Devices view and includes the name of the implantable device which will include the GMDN (Global Medical Device Nomenclature)name, the implanted date, removed date, and the managed by provider's name. Both active and removed devices are displayed in the Implantable Devices view for the selected patient.

Description

With v17.1 users now have the capability of documenting and tracking medical implantable devices.

A medical implant is device or tissue that are placed inside or on the surface of a patient's body. Implants can be prosthetics, but can also be items used to deliver medication or provide support to organs and tissues. They can also be used to monitor a patient's body functions. Implantable devices can include stents, hip implants, chemo therapy ports,cochlear implants, and bone screws.

Examples of some Implantable devices:

  • Stents
  • Hip replacement
  • Knee replacement
  • Cochlear
  • Chemo therapy ports
  • Bone screws

Setup

Preferences: TWAdmin>Preferences>System

  1. ImplantableDeviceExternalAccessTimeOut - indicate how long, in seconds, the application attempts to connect to the implantable device look-up service before it times out with no results.
  2. ImplantableDeviceLookupServiceURL - enter the URL of the external service that the application uses to reference implantable device information.
  3. ImplantableDeviceUDIParseServiceURL - enter the URL of the external database used to parse implantable device information into the application.
