Setting up Dictate and Licensing

Goal

Setup a user for Dictation. This will require entering their Outbound Dictate ID, and may require that you add new licenses to the Allscripts Enterprise EHR system.

Adding an Outbound Dictate ID

In the User setup (v10 this is in SA under Security -> Users, v11 this is in TWAdmin -> TWUser Admin), find the Outbound Dictate ID field and enter the ID that is used by the transcription system for this User. If you are testing, put any value here, say the provider code for this user. If there are no licenses setup, or the maximum number of licenses has been met, you will need to add more - see below.

Adding New Dictate Licenses

You will need to contact Allscripts so they can run Dictate Key.exe (aka Dictate ID.exe, aka DicKey.exe) to add new licenses. Before calling, go to the screen mentioned above and click the License button. Enter the number of additional licenses required, and write down the "Public Key" that is generated. Next, before calling, check if you are running SQL 2005. If you are, see Enabling OLE Automation before proceeding in this section.

Call Allscripts with the Public Key. Enter the Private Key given to you in the specified box and click OK. The additional licenses will be created.

Enabling OLE Automation

Open the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration tool. You should find it in the Start Menu under Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -> Configuration Tools. Click "Surface Area Configuration for Features". Under MSSQLSERVER -> Database Engine -> OLE Automation, check "Enable OLE Automation". Click Apply and you should be ready to call Allscripts to get the Private Key for the Dictate Licenses.
